The Data Visualization and Analysis course is made up of 6 modules:

Power BI

18 hours

This training is designed to equip participants with a solid understanding of Power BI and its practical application in data analysis and reporting, particularly within Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) contexts. Through a blend of theoretical sessions, hands-on exercises, and collaborative learning, participants will develop the necessary skills to effectively utilize Power BI in their professional endeavors.

Data Storytelling with PowerPoint

12 hours

This training empowers participants with a deep understanding of data visualization’s importance. It guides them in selecting visuals, mastering PowerPoint, and enhancing data storytelling.

Data Automation

24 hours

This training teaches participants digital transformation and automation concepts, exploring foundational principles, testing automation tools in data collection, and digitizing surveys using Excel. They will learn to model data with Power Query, create efficient dashboards for dynamic data interaction, and enhance data analysis skills.

Excel

12 hours

This training provides participants with essential Excel skills, covering navigation, data entry, and basic formulas.

It includes data validation, advanced conditional formatting, and proficiency in logical functions. Participants will also learn to create and manage Pivot tables and charts for effective data visualization.

Data Analysis

5 hours

This training covers Data Analysis, Intersectionality, Gender Equity and Social Inclusion, as well as Learning for Adaptation. Participants will learn data summary versus analysis, and practice exploratory, trend, performance, intersectionality, and qualitative analyses. They’ll interpret data for adaptation, presenting case studies with recommendations for course correction.

Advanced Data Analysis

8 hours

The Advanced Data Analysis training equips participants with comprehensive skills in statistical methods and Excel techniques. Through hands-on exercises and real-world examples, the program fosters active engagement and skill empowerment.

Introduction to Monitoring, Evaluations, & Learning

18 hours

This training introduces the MEL cycle and donor approaches, highlighting similarities and differences in developing log frames or results frameworks.

MEL Planning

18 hours

This training provides guidance on conceptualizing, writing, selecting, and measuring project/activity indicators within a donor-based result framework and developing MEL plans. It emphasizes articulating theories of change, objectives, and logic models.

Data Collection

36 hours

The Data Collection training provides thorough training on planning and implementing data collection, covering methods, tool development, sampling, digitization, and ethical considerations. Through theoretical insights and practical exercises, participants gain hands-on skills for high-quality data collection, making it valuable for beginners or those seeking to improve their practices in MEL.

Integrating Gender in MEL

6 hours

This training focuses on integrating gender-sensitive practices into MEL approaches through sections on preparing gender-responsive evaluation and assessment questions, methodology and design, data collection, and reporting.

Planning & Management of MEL

42 hours

This training provides guidance on conceptualizing, writing, selecting, and measuring project/activity indicators within a donor-based result framework and developing MEL plans. It emphasizes articulating theories of change, objectives, and logic models.

The Research, Evaluation and Learning Techniques course is made up of 5 modules:

Sampling Methodology

12 hours

A brief technical training course tailored for MEL professionals, emphasizing data visualization. Participants will refine their data interpretation skills, enhance chart quality, and increase data handling efficiency.

Collaborating, Learning, & Adapting (CLA)

12 hours

This training introduces the CLA framework and the practices for strengthening organizational learning and the conditions that enable learning throughout the Program Cycle, helping apprentices understand how CLA contributes to improved program effectiveness, utilizing exercises that capture CLA.

Outcome Harvesting

18 hours

This training provides a basic understanding of Outcome Harvesting (OH) and its practical application within the program cycle and the MEL ecosystem. OH identifies, describes, verifies, and analyzes changes in development interventions. Inspired by Outcome Mapping, it works backward to assess contribution to change. Through theoretical knowledge, hands-on exercises, and group collaboration, participants learn to incorporate OH into their professional roles.

Impact Mapping

18 hours

This training offers a deep dive into Impact Mapping, focusing on tracing change pathways for end-users or beneficiaries. Participants learn to identify key actors and areas of influence, distinguishing causation from correlation using relatable examples. They explore incorporating counterfactuals into program evaluation for clear causality and attribution to impact, enhancing their ability to assess program effectiveness and drive meaningful change.

Design Thinking

18 hours

This training covers essential methodologies for problem-solving and program improvement. Participants learn Root Cause Analysis to uncover underlying issues, Journey Mapping for use insights, and Fidelity of Implementation tools for program adherence. The scaling toolkit by MSI guides sustainable intervention scaling. Grounded in real world applications, these methodologies empower participants to drive impactful program changes.
