Testing Models of Remediation for Early Grade Literacy through Quasi-Experimental Research

Integrated led a three-stage study for the UK Education Endowment Fund in partnership with the Queen Rania Foundation and NatCen, aiming to improve early-grade reading. The study consisted of a pre-pilot (2021), pilot (2022-2024), and efficacy trial (2024-2026). Integrated designed a mixed methods evaluation of two remediation models: Catch Up and Whole Class, tested among Grade 1-3 students in public schools in Jordan. Supported by EGRA-based data collection, teacher survey and focus groups with parents and teachers, the study tracked students to evaluate the two treatment models against a control group, while also incorporating qualitative insights from stakeholders. The findings were used to inform the possibility of national scaling of the models.
