Testing Learning Outcomes with Feed the Monster, an Arabic Literacy Game

ClientUSAID/JordanCountriesJordan

As an official innovation research partner with USAID’s All Children Reading – A Grand Challenge for Development, Integrated conducted a randomized control trial (RCTs) testing the efficacy of Feed the Monster, an awardwinning game, with 1,000 out-of-school Syrian refugees in camps. Our research broke ground in assessing for the first time the impact of ed-tech on Arabic literacy and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) through game-based learning. This included testing children before introduction to the ed-tech, conducting qualitative research and game flow research during the 3-month testing period, and collecting endline literacy and SEL data. This research informed learning on what works and what needs improvement within digital game-based learning initiatives focused on out-of-school children.
